The MGR Paddle Stencil System

The Paddle Stencil is an important accessory for the McGonagle®Reader and is intended to offer additional assistance to users with sight loss, particularly those who have been blind from birth or early years. These voters, may have very little pencil/pen or arabic numeral [0-9] or (X) familiarity.

The unique features are the embossed paddle on the left and the marking well to the right. This affords touch navigation for the voter and enables them to make their intended mark in the only possible box on the ballot paper for their intended candidate.

There are three stencil types:

Arabic Numeral Stencil
Intended for “Single Transferable Vote” elections [LGE Scotland & N. Ireland & NI Assy.] where the voter is required to put a 1 on the voting box next to their first choice, 2 in the voting box next to the second choice and so on. The system has six stencils [1 – 6] with indicative pips to the left and a matching font in the well on the right.

Cross Stencil
Intended for “First Past the Post” elections [UKPGE & Multiple Vacancy] where the voter is required to indicate their preference by marking a cross X in the box next to their choice/s.

Open Well Stencil
Intended for voters who lost their sight in later years but are still familiar & confident with pen/pencil use and numerical marking but who may benefit from being guided directly to the correct marking box.
