Following a program of intense product development and in response to directives set out in the Elections Act of 2022, Pakflatt® has now received initial orders from several early adopting local authorities in the UK.

Building on his experience since the 2001 General Election, when he led the team that invented and deployed a tactile voting device (TVD) for the blind, Patrick McGonagle set about inventing an audio assisted version of his TVD to achieve this objective.

His now patented McGonagle®Reader system (MGR) has been exhaustively tested by NCBI with blind voters in Ireland, at by elections in England, at some polling stations in the UKPGE in July 2024 and most recently by RNIB, where it scored 93% effectiveness with blind people.

Voters who are blind from birth or early years may have limited pencil competence and low levels of experience particularly in using Arabic numerals (1-9 etc.).

Even voters who are making a cross ‘X’ may find the use of an appropriate stencil very reassuring. The stencil font is deployed within the marking well and is dimensionally compatible with the lead of the pencil.

Two stencil systems are available with MGR, a “X” font for FPTP and a suite of arabic numeral fonts for AV & STV. The stencil font is deployed within the marking well and sized to suit the lead of the graphite pencil.

The paddle has embossed markers for touch navigation: a cross (X) for FPTP and embossed posts for STV and AV. (1 for first choice, 2 for second and so on…)

The stencil paddle is to the left and extends outward to ring the doorbell.
