BLIND VOTERS CAN VOTE IN SECRET USING THE McGONAGLE READER
For sighted people voting is a simple act of marking a cross against the candidate of choice in the privacy of a polling booth. For a blind or partially sighted person this is not so easy. Most need the assistance of another person, negating the element of secrecy that is fundamental to the voting process. Some, understandably are put off voting at all by this and thus, are left out of the democratic process.
The McGonagle®Reader (MGR) featured in the video below addresses this issue allowing the voter the secrecy of the polling booth that we all take for granted.
The video features how Newham London prepped their blind constituents in using the MGR before election day (local elections last May). Other councils shared their experience of using the MGR.
